Very impressive late 19th.c. gilded overmantle mirror or pier glass c.1880. Originally intended to sit over a grand fireplace it would be ideal as a full length dressing mirror in a bedroom or dress shop. Original 36 x 63 mirror plate within a superb gilded frame topped with an architectural frieze featuring a young child playing a flute within a central arch with acanthus spray and flanked with balusters to each side. Extensive moulded detail to the face of the frame and patterned inner edge. Excellent condition, retaining the original gilding. Original label for the silverers to the rear of the mirror plate dated 1896.
