Period: Early 20th Century Antiques
This is an unusual Chinese hardwood mirror circa 1920, finely carved in high relief with figures and animals within a landscape bearing rocks and pine trees, which have mostly been gilded and all set against a micaceous green background. However, the tiger (top left) is painted red while the faces, hands and boots of the figures and the horse (top right) are painted dark brown. The carved decoration is arranged around a relatively small quatrefoil shaped mirror with carved border, and all is presented within a narrow hardwood frame with elaborate brass hanger.
Dimensions: Width 35.5 cm, Height 49 cm, Depth 3 cm
Condition: The mirror is in very good antique condition, though some of the gilding has rubbed a little. No losses to the carving have been observed.
